First 'Neighbors 2' Photo Has Zac Efron & Seth Rogen Going Topless
It seems like just yesterday when Seth Rogen and Zac Efron engaged in a battle of wits in the 2014 comedy Neighbors, which became one of the surprise hits of the summer, taking in in more than $270 million worldwide from just an $18 million budget. Both actors return this summer, alongside Rose Byrne, in the upcoming sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and to help ring in the new year, Entertainment Weekly has the first official photo. The image features both Seth Rogen’s Mac Radner and Zac Efron‘s Teddy Sanders going topless, while Mac’s wife Kelly (Rose Byrne) is wearing a cheerleader outfit.
While the photo appears to depict some sort of a party scene, we don’t have any further details, like why Seth Rogen has “abs” painted on his chest. EW reveals that some of the parties fans will see in the sequel include a “disorienting hall-of-mirrors rave” and a “down-and-dirty Mad Max-inspired tailgate”. It’s certainly possible that this photo is from the tailgate party, but there aren’t exactly any cheerleaders in Mad Max: Fury Road, so we’re not completely sure. At any rate, Seth Rogen revealed that being shirtless around Zac Efron isn’t exactly a pleasant experience.
“That one was both a lot of fun and a nightmare to shoot. Anytime I’m shirtless next to Zac Efron for really long periods, it even gets to me eventually.”
Last year’s Neighbors ended up with the married couple Mac and Kelly eventually getting the best of Teddy and his fraternity, but in the sequel, they have a new problem to contend with: a sorority that moves in on their block. Chloe Moretz and Selena Gomez star as two of the sorority members, but it isn’t exactly clear how Teddy fits into the picture. Rose Byrne revealed that the emergence of this sorority has both Mac and Kelly fearful for their daughter’s future.
“With the sorority girls, it’s like a glimpse into their daughter’s future, and it terrifies them.”
Seth Rogen also co-wrote the screenplay for this sequel, with his writing partner Evan Goldberg and original Neighbors writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Nick Stoller is also back in the director’s chair, revealing that his experience on both these movies has made him an expert on how to throw a “fake party.” Here’s what the filmmaker had to say below.
“I could do a TED talk on how to throw a fake party. I’ve thrown at least 20 times more fake parties than real parties, and my real parties are so much worse.”
Other returning Neighbors stars include Dave Franco, Lisa Kudrow and Ike Barinholtz. Universal has set a May 20, 2016 release date for this comedy, which goes up against The Angry Birds Movie and The Nice Guys. With the arrival of this photo, the first trailer could be just around the corner, so stay tuned for that. 'Batman v Superman' Shirts Show Off Wonder Woman & LexCorp Art
Back in November, Merchoid revealed new t-shirts for the highly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice featuring horrific promo art depicting Batman (Ben Affleck) as the “Gotham Demon” and Superman (Henry Cavill) as a “False God.” Today, the company has unveiled even more merchandise, including artistic t-shirts featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and even the LexCorp logo. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will launch Warner Bros.’ DC Comics movie slate, which includes Suicide Squad, Justice League Part 1, Justice League Part 2 and stand alone movies featuring the Justice League members. Fearing the actions of a god-like superhero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman vs Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice brings both Batman and Superman to the big screen for the first time, while featuring other iconic DC Comics characters such as Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons). The supporting cast includes Man of Steel stars Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), along with Holly Hunter in a role created specifically for this movie. Other supporting cast members include Jena Malone, Callan Mulvey, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Tao Okamoto and Scoot McNairy. Jena Malone has been rumored to play Barbara Gordon, while Callan Mulvey is rumored to portray Anatoli Knyazev, also known as KGBeast.
Zack Snyder directs Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice from a script by Chris Terrio. Both the writer and director will return for Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2, which starts production this coming spring in London. Before that two-part adventure arrives, though, the villains will take over the big screen in Suicide Squad, arriving August 5, 2016.

'Fifty Shades of Black' Cast Share Their New Year's Resolutions
One of the early box office hits this year was Universal’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which took in over $500 million worldwide, and set the pace for the studio’s record-breaking year. Unfortunately for fans of this movie, and the E.L. James novel it’s based on, the sequel Fifty Shades Darker won’t be hitting theaters until February 2017, but Open Road Films has a new movie that could help to fill the void, Fifty Shades of Black. The studio is helping fans kick off 2016 in the right way, with a video featuring New Year’s Resolutions from Christian Black (Marlon Wayans).
These resolutions include “Become a Better Person,” “Be More Generous,” “Drink Less Alcohol,” “Eat Healthier,” “Explore New Cultures” and “Always Be Prepared.” Along with these resolutions, we also get some new footage from this spoof comedy, featuring Marlon Wayans and his co-stars Kali Hawk, Mike Epps, Affion Crockett. While this movie is obviously a spoof of Fifty Shades of Grey, this footage also shows that they poke fun of Magic Mike as well.
The supporting cast is rounded out by Jane Seymour, Fred Willard, Andrew Bachelor, Kate Lang Johnson, Tina Grimm and Marissa D’Onofrio. Along with starring in the comedy, Marlon Wayans also co-wrote the script with Rick Alvarez, who he has collaborated with on Little Man, Dance Flick, A Haunted House and last year’s A Haunted House 2.
Michael Tiddes, who directed Dance Flick, A Haunted House and A Haunted House 2, returns to the helm for this spoof, which is set to hit theaters nationwide on January 29. The comedy will be going up against a number of high-profile projects, Disney’s The Finest Hours starring Chris Pine, Jane Got a Gun starring Natalie Portman and the animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 3. Whether or not Fifty Shades of Black can hold its own at the box office remains to be seen.
Marlon Wayans’ last spoof, A Haunted House 2, only earned $23 million worldwide last year, but it was produced for just $4 million. Given the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey, it’s possible that some fans could give Fifty Shades of Black a shot, while they wait for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele to return to the big screen next year. 11 Sequels You Forgot Were Coming in 2016
In just a few short days, we’ll be saying au revoir to 2015, and ringing in 2016, a year ripe with cinematic potential. This coming year will mark the first time that two iconic superheroes will share the big screen (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), the start of Marvel Phase Three (Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange), and the end of a beloved superhero trilogy (X-Men: Apocalypse). Oh yeah, and another Star Wars movie is coming out as well (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). All of these aforementioned movies are either sequels or part of an established universe, and they all very well may be some of the biggest movies of the year. But there are also a slew of follow-ups that you may not be so familiar with.
It’s certainly no secret that sequels and big franchise movies have been dominating at the box office lately. This year, seven of the top 10 movies are either sequels, or spinoffs of an existing universe (Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7, Minions, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and Spectre). Of the remaining three, one was a live action remake (Cinderella), another was an adaptation (The Martian) and the other was a wholly original movie (Inside Out).
In fact, if you look farther back, you’ll see that sequels have run rampant at the box office throughout the first 16 years of the 21st Century. From 2000 to 2015, the highest-grossing movie of each year belonged to a sequel in each year except five: 2014 (American Sniper), 2012 (Marvel’s The Avengers), 2009 (Avatar), 2002 (Spider-Man) and 2000 (Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas). Of course, three of those were adaptations, one brought together all of the characters from the highly-successful Marvel Phase One and the the other was completely original. Are you seeing a trend developing here?
The plain and simple reason why there are so many sequels is because they make money. Every studio wants that franchise to latch onto for the long haul. Sometimes, the right sequel can turn a movie into a true franchise, but it’s certainly not a sure thing. For every The Godfather: Part II, the first sequel ever to win Best Picture at the Oscars, there’s a Batman & Robin, which brought the Dark Knight’s franchise to a screeching halt… before it was resurrected again less than a decade later. 2016 is chocked full of sequels, reboots and other movies set in massive cinematic universes, but we’re focusing our attention on 13 follow-ups that you may not be quite so familiar with… or that you have forgotten about entirely.
Some of these sequels have been in the works for years, while others are coming shortly after the original made some sort of mark at the box office. While these follow-ups may be off your proverbial cinematic radar now, some of these movies may end up being some of the biggest movies of the year, boasting A-list stars and directors alike. Of course, it’s also possible that these projects fade into oblivion shortly after their release, but we’ll have to wait and see if the moviegoing gods smile upon these sequels or not.
Before we begin, I’ll tell you up front not to expect big-ticket projects like the aforementioned Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is essentially a super-sized sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel. You also won’t find follow-ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Now You See Me 2, Star Trek Beyond or Independence Day: Resurgence, because they are huge, big-budget follow-ups, and because they all recently had trailers released. While some of the movies you’ll find below do have trailers already out there, they aren’t as highly-publicized as these aforementioned projects. So, with all of that in mind, take a look at our 13 under the radar sequels for 2016, presented in order of their theatrical release. Keep in mind, some of these release dates may changed at any point in time, so stay tuned.
How can you go wrong with Donnie Yen and Mike Tyson in one movie? Answer: you can’t. Ip Man 3 rounds out this critically-acclaimed trilogy, with Donnie Yen reprising his role as the title character from Ip Man and Ip Man 2, a legendary martial artist who is perhaps best known as the teacher and mentor of Bruce Lee. This explosive third installment of the blockbuster martial arts series centers on Master Ip taking a stand against a band of brutal gangsters led by a crooked property developer (Mike Tyson), as they make a play to take over the city. Kwok-Kwan Chan also stars as a young Bruce Lee, but, initially, that wasn’t always the case. Director Wilson Yip, who directed the first two movies as well, had originally planned on using a CGI recreation of Bruce Lee, but the late martial arts star’s family filed a lawsuit against the production, to stop the use of his image through CGI. While we never got an official update on the lawsuit, Kwok-Kwan Chan was eventually cast as Bruce Lee. If you’re a martial arts fan and still haven’t seen the first two movies, they’re both available for streaming on Netflix, so you can catch up with this action-packed saga before this sequel hits theaters next month. While the first two movies were never box office juggernauts, hopefully Ip Man 3 can breathe new life into this franchise. We’ll find out for sure on January 22.

'Alien: Covenant' Happens a Decade After 'Prometheus'
In just a few months, principal photography will begin on Alien: Covenant, with casting already starting to heat up. We reported earlier this month that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Katherine Waterston has landed the key role of Daniels, who will be joined by Prometheus star Michael Fassbender as the android David. We also know that Alien: Covenant will be the first in a new trilogy that will eventually connect to Ridley Scott‘s original sci-fi classic Alien. Collider recently spoke with costume designer Janty Yates, who worked with the director on Prometheus and his latest sci-fi thriller The Martian, and she revealed that Alien: Covenant takes place 10 years after the events of Prometheus, while teasing new details about the costumes.
“[Alien: Covenant is] not so much of a spacesuit movie. There are two different spacesuits in it, but it’s not a great spacesuit movie. We are only carrying on one look from Prometheus, which is with David, the robot. He’s just got the hangover of the Prometheus 1 spacesuit. It’s 10 years in the future beyond Prometheus.”
She also added that Ridley Scott has signed off on the two different spacesuits, but she wouldn’t offer any details about how different they are from the suits seen in Prometheus. After rumors spread that original Prometheus star Noomi Rapace wouldn’t have a role in Alien: Covenant, it was later revealed that she only has a small role in the follow-up. Since the movie is set 10 years after Prometheus, it isn’t known if we’ll see her in flashbacks, or if her character Elizabeth Shaw, the only human survivor of Prometheus, died in the decade that followed.
The story centers on the crew of the colony ship Covenant, who are bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. They discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but it actually turns out to be a dark, dangerous world. And the sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. Aside from Katherine Waterston, no other new casting additions have been announced at this time.
Ridley Scott is directing from a script by Jack Paglen, Michael Green and John Logan. It has also been confirmed by the director that Alien: Covenant will feature some sort of connection to Sigourney Weaver‘s iconic Ellen Ripley character from the original Alien. Some have speculated that we may even see Ripley conceived on the Covenant ship, and that Katherine Waterston’s character may actually be Ripley’s mother. Chewbacca Medal Debate Finally Answered in New 'Star Wars' Comic
Why didn’t Chewbacca get a medal at the end of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope? That is a question fans have been asking for the past 38 years, ever since the original 1977 release of the first movie. During the iconic medal ceremony on Yavin IV, which celebrated the heroism of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker during the raid, and ultimate destruction of the Death Star, both humans were given a gold medal of bravery by none other than Princess Leia. Chewbacca had to stand on the sidelines and yell out his disappointment just before credits rolled. He was left empty handed. Now, a new comic book has our real, true, canon specific answer to what actually happened.
The medal debate has raged for years. The truth is, Chewbacca was given a medal to call his own. He just didn’t want to wear it. This idea is presented in the new Chewbacca comic book series, issue #5. io9 has an official review of the comic book, which they have shared. There are some spoilers ahead for Chewbacca #5, so read on at your own risk!
Chewbacca #5 brings the Wookie’s short adventure with Zarro to an end. The crash-landed duo have freed the young girl’s father from a local thug operating spice mines. And they have escaped Imperial Troops. After freeing themselves from a Star Destroyer, Chewbacca and Zarror are ready to go their separate ways. The young Zarro suggests to Chewy that it sure would be nice if they had a memento to remember how they saved this planet from the Empire. This is when Chewbacca turns to bestow his Yavin IV medal on the girl.
It is presumed, but never outright stated, that Chewbacca was given the medal sometime after the big ceremony. It’s unclear why Leia didn’t hand him the medal at the same time Luke and Han were awarded theirs. Chewy explains to Zarro that he doesn’t like having the medal, and that it clashes with his ‘warrior vibe’. At least, this is how Zarro translates the Wookie’s native language of Shyriiwook.
Now we know for a fact that Chewbacca did get his own medal for helping destroy the Death Star. But we’ll likely never see that medal again. It’s not like we ever saw Han and Luke‘s medals show up in previous movies. Unless there is a The Force Awakens Easter egg fans have yet to locate.
The Marvel Star Wars comics have been doing a great job of filling in a lot of little holes that the movies miss or gloss over. And this is all official Star Wars canon. The theories and debates about Chewbacca and his medal can finally be put to rest. Next up, in a C-3PO one shot, we will learn just how the droid got his red arm. That comic will be released in February. Until then, here’s a sneak peek at Chewbacca #5.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Overtakes 'Frozen' as #8 Movie of All Time
In just 13 days, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has shattered box office records left and right, and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Disney’s epic blockbuster has now earned over $1.29 billion worldwide, in just 13 days, which passes the studio’s animated hit Frozen as the eighth highest grossing movie of all time. After taking in $64.8 million worldwide on Wednesday ($28.1 million domestically and $36.7 million internationally), this sci-fi adventure has taken in $629 million in North American theaters and $664.1 million in overseas markets.
Domestically, Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $629 million take has surpassed Marvel’s The Avengers’ $623.9 million take to become the fourth-highest grossing movie of all time. It shouldn’t take long for director J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi adventure to pass Jurassic World‘s $652.2 million tally and Titanic‘s $658.6 million mark to become the second-highest grossing movie ever in North America. Avatar still holds the record for biggest domestic gross ever with $760.5 million, along with the worldwide record of $2.7 billion. If Star Wars: The Force Awakens keeps up this torrid pace, both of these records could fall in a matter of days or weeks.
What’s even more impressive about these numbers is that Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn’t even opened in one of the world’s biggest markets yet, China. The movie has been given a January 9 release date in China, which has proven to become a very important market at the international box office. While the movie doesn’t necessarily need an extra jolt at the box office, the Chinese release could very well be what puts Star Wars: The Force Awakens into position to break Avatar‘s all-time records.
In related news, Deadline reports that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is breaking more records in the U.K. The blockbuster has earned 83.5 million pounds ($123.8 million) in its first 13 days, making it the fastest film to make 80 million pounds, breaking Skyfall‘s record of 23 days. The U.K. has become the biggest international territory for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is now the fourth highest-grossing movie in U.K. history, passing Titanic. It still has a bit of work to do before it overtakes the top three movies in U.K. history, Skyfall ($161.2 million), Avatar ($150 million) and Spectre ($138.3 million), but it should leapfrog over those movies in the next few days.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has also broken the U.K.’s IMAX record of 8.2 million pounds ($12.16 million), previously held by Spectre. The BFI London theater is now the highest-grossing IMAX theater in the world for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Deadline is also projecting that both the domestic and international grosses will each get to $700 million this weekend, which means that Avatar‘s all-time domestic mark could be poised to fall very soon. Only two movies in history have grossed over $2 billion worldwide, Titanic ($2.1 billion) and Avatar ($2.7 billion). Could Star Wars: The Force Awakens be the third and become the biggest movie of all time? Only time will tell.

DC's 'Legends of Tomorrow' Trailer: History Is About to Change
With the new year just hours away, many fans are counting down the return of their favorite TV shows, following the holiday hiatus. The CW’s The Flash and Arrow will return on Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20 respectively, and both shows will be joined by yet another superhero series, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, debuting Thursday, January 21 at 8 PM ET. The network has released a new trailer for this highly-anticipated adventure, which gives us a new look at the unorthodox team assembled by Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), to save the world from a horrific threat. We also get a glimpse at the Time Masters, who Rip Hunter visits to ask permission for putting a team together.
In DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, when heroes alone are not enough, the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only the planet is at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, Brandon Routh as Atom, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Ciara Renee as Hawkgirl, Falk Hentschel as Hawkman and Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson, with Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave and Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold. Based on the characters from DC Comics, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, Chris Fedak and Sarah Schechter serve as executive producers. Glenn Winter directed the pilot episode, from a script by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg.
Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), serves as the show’s main villain, who fans first saw in the Arrow and The Flash crossover event that aired earlier this month on The CW. Stephanie Corneliussen has also signed on to play the DC Comics character Valentina Vostok, a.k.a. Negative Woman, and another report from October revealed that the show is casting for Connor Hawke. In the Arrow comic books, Connor Hawke is Oliver Queen’s son, although that aspect of the comics will be discarded for the TV version.
We also reported yesterday that The CW will be airing a new special entitled DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now on Tuesday, January 19 at 9 PM ET, offering an in-depth look at the origin stories of the heroes and villains of the highly-anticipated new series. The special features show clips and interviews from Legends, Arrow and The Flash executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer and Wendy Mericle. Their Time Is Now introduces viewers to the immortal madman Vandal Savage, the time master Rip Hunter, and the motley band of heroes and rogues he assembles to try to save the future of humanity: Hawkman, Hawkgirl, White Canary, The Atom, Firestorm, Captain Cold, and Heat Wave. 'Zootopia' Trailer #3 Rings in the New Year with Shakira
Earlier this month, Disney revealed a new Tumblr page for Zootopia, which featured a number of parody posters that put an animal twist on some of this year’s biggest movies. The page also teased that a special surprise would be released on “Zoo Year’s Eve,” and today we have the third trailer for this upcoming animated comedy, arriving in theaters March 4, 2016. The trailer features the all-new original song “Try Everything,” written by singer-songwriter Sia and songwriting duo Stargate, and performed by Grammy®-winning international superstar Shakira. The single will be available everywhere on January 8.
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together-a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.
The supporting voice cast is rounded out by Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Alan Tudyk, Tommy Lister, Katie Lowes, Jesse Corti and John Di Maggio. It was also announced last month that Michael Giacchino will provide the score, his first collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios. The studio will also release another animated adventure next year, Moana, arriving in theaters one year from today, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Zootopia is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons), and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero). The screenplay was written by Jared Bush and Phil Johnston (The Brothers Grimsby), with Clark Spencer (Wreck-It Ralph, Lilo & Stitch) serving as producer. For fans who plan on attending Disney Parks in the new year, you can also get a sneak peek of this movie .
Starting January 21, guests visiting Disney Parks will be able to catch a preview of scenes from Disney’s hysterical comedy-adventure Zootopia in sneak peeks planned for Disney California Adventure park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At Disney California Adventure park, the Zootopia preview will be presented at the Bug’s Life Theater with special in-theater effects. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will get to see this advance look at clips from the film as part of the One Man’s Dream attraction on Mickey Avenue. James Gunn Praises 'Captain America: Civil War' & New Spider-Man
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has mastered the art of talking about upcoming Marvel movies without saying anything substantial. He offers good sound bites and perfectly wrapped little morsels of information that won’t get him in trouble with Disney and the higher brass. Today, he appeared on his personal Facebook page to provide a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 update. But that wasn’t the real news. It’s what he had to say about Captain America: Civil War that matters.
Being the director of a massive Marvel blockbuster comes with its perks. And one of those perks is getting to see everything else in the pipeline months before it comes out. James Gunn has seen Civil War. And he didn’t just like it. He loved it, heaping praise on the May release. While we won’t get to see all the action for another five months, here’s how James Gunn described the experience.
“I saw Civil War, and I think it’s incredible. It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can’t believe what a wonderful job the Russo Brothers did, and the cast. Oh my god, they are so good. It’s an amazing film, and people are going to be really excited to see that in the summer time. It’s great.”
That’s high praise indeed. Though, it seems like every new Marvel movie that comes along is the next best one. One of the crucial aspects fans are wondering is, just how well does Tom Holland hold it down as Spider-Man? Having seen Captain America: Civil War in its entirety, this means James Gunn has been witnessed to what promises to be the greatest Marvel cameo of all time. About it, he can only say this.
“Tom Holland is off the charts Awesome. Truly. Hand to my heart, he’s amazing.”
Doctor Strange, which is the second movie in the Phase 3 lineup, arrives in November, just 7 months after Captain America: Civil War. It doesn’t sound like James Gunn has seen too much as production continues on the film, which is shooting right this second. He’s far too busy prepping his own sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But he did have this to say about the Sorcerer Supreme.
“I really like the script.”
His Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 update is mostly made up of interesting tidbits we’ve heard before. We know the movie is currently in pre-production. And will start shooting in the New Year. Here’s the official update from James Gunn.
“We’re going back to Atlanta in just a few days. Then I really hit the ground running. We start rehearsals with the cast shortly thereafter. Then we go start shooting in February. We hit the ground running.”
James Gunn went onto quickly answer a few more questions. Will we get a Slither 2? Probably not. Is Nova in the movie? Who knows? Is Howard the Duck set to return? He just shrugs. He’s not very forthcoming on a lot of these things. And he’s not sure he’ll make it to Comic-Con 2016. He goes onto reassure everyone that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t yet tie into the overall MCU yet, either. That will come further down the road.
“I might go to Comic Con this year. It will be right when we’re done shooting. So we’ll see. But yeah, the Guardians is more about the Guardians universe. Though we are connected to the rest of the universe. There is a chance of the Guardians interacting with the rest of that universe, but that’s not what this movie is about. This is about its own story. Its about the mythology of the Guardians themselves. We just want to focus on the story of the Guardians. Peter Quill and his father, and how that plays into everything else.”
At this early stage, we doubt James Gunn would say anything negative about Captain America: Civil War or Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man. But as you can see, he passes up certain questions, responding to them in silence. He’s always been quite honest. So if he didn’t believe what he is saying, he probably wouldn’t have acknowledged these items at all. Which is reason enough to get excited! Don’t you think?

'Walking Dead' Season 6 Midseason Premiere Trailer: Negan Is Coming
The first half of The Walking Dead Season 6 was a non-stop zombie fest that never slowed down to catch its breath. And it brought one big shock after the next. The trailer for the midseason premiere promises to keep that momentum going, introducing Negan’s saviors while also teasing an iconic moment from the comic books upon which this AMC series is based.
It’s been more than a month since we last saw the survivors of The Walking Dead. And that might have been too much time. These all-new episodes are some of the most anticipated in the series’ run. And for good reason. They will explore some story arcs that have long been teased in the comic. From here on out, this world of the zombie apocalypse is going to be insane. And we suspect that some of the most beloved members of Rick’s family aren’t going to make it to see The Walking Dead Season 7 in October.
There isn’t a whole lot of new The Walking Dead footage here. We know that the big, bad Negan is coming soon. He’ll be played by the enigmatic Jeffrey Dean Morgan. But before he makes his way on the scene, we’ll be introduced to Negan’s Saviors, who showed up in a special clip following the The Walking Dead Season 6 midseason finale, as they stopped Daryl, Abraham and Sasha from returning to Alexandria. We see a few moments from that intense footage here.
The big moment in this latest sneak peek finds Andrew Lincoln‘s Rick Grimes swinging his hatchet, which we haven’t really seen on the show too much just yet. The big question is, who is on the receiving end of that mighty blow? When we last saw Rick and his small group of Alexandria survivors, they had covered themselves in zombie guts and were trying to make a break from the overtaken community. But Jessie’s son Sam was about to have a mental breakdown. If he gets too loud, this could cause a full on attack. One that puts everyone in danger and requires Rick to use his hatchet.
In the comic book, someone is overtaken by the Walkers and grabs Carl by the arm. That’s when Rick brings down the weapon, severing the arm. Originally (SPOILER ALERT), it is Jessie who is cut loose. Rick chooses family over any possible budding romance. There is speculation that the TV show will veer off into uncharted territory and allow Jessie to live, putting someone else on the receiving end of that hatchet blade.
We’ll have to wait until February 14, on Valentine’s night, to both meet Negan’s Saviors and see just who is losing that limb. The Walking Dead Season 6 promises to pick right back up where it left off, with no time having passed for our poor Alexandria residents, who likely no longer have a home. And just when will Negan arrive to swing his bat? It’s suspected that he won’t show up until the big season finale. So, who’s excited?

'Doctor Strange' Ancient One & Baron Mordo Details Revealed
Ever since Marvel Studios launched its Cinematic Universe back in 2008 with Iron Man, fans have come to expect the unexpected. Whether it be the studio’s unconventional casting or directorial choices, one never quite knows what to expect from an MCU adventure. That tradition will continue next year with Doctor Strange, with the studio revealing earlier this year that Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton is taking on the role of the Ancient One, a character typically portrayed by a male in the comics. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who shed some light on why they cast a female for the Ancient One.
“We’re never afraid to change. In the comic books, Jarvis is an elderly butler. In the movies, he’s an A.I. system which becomes Paul Bettany‘s Vision. We are always looking for ways to change. I think if you look at some of the early incarnations of the Ancient One in the comics, they are what we would consider today to be quite, sort of, stereotypical. They don’t hold up to what would work today. Also, within the storyline of the comics, and our movie, ‘the Ancient One’ is a title that many people have had. We hit very early on on, What if the Ancient One was a woman? What if the title had been passed and the current Ancient One is a woman? Oh, that’s an interesting idea. [Clicks fingers.] Tilda Swinton! Whoah! And it just hit.”
Earlier this week, we got our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, but with production still under way, it isn’t known when we may get our glimpse at the Ancient One. Tilda Swinton herself has teased in the past that her version of the Ancient One might not necessarily be a woman, which Kevin Feige also addressed. The producer revealed that characters refer to the Ancient One as “her” and “she,” but the actress’ performance is still rather androgynous.
“Look, she’s a chameleon in everything she does. She has this amazing [ability to] harness of this androgynous sense. So, we use the term ‘her’ and ‘she’ in the film but, other than that, it’s very androgynous. Because it doesn’t matter.”
The actress herself wouldn’t give the site a straight answer, stating she wouldn’t know how to answer that question, adding “I think it’s all in the eye of the beholder.” One of the other comic book characters that will be introduced in Doctor Strange is Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s Baron Mordo. In the comics, Mordo was another sorcerer like Stephen Strange, who was mentored and trained by the Ancient One, although he eventually turns into an evil villain. EW also spoke with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who shed some light on Mordo’s relationship with the Ancient One.
“In terms of his life with the Ancient One, it’s this long and intense relationship they have that’s just very deep and very connected. I think they both recognize in Strange this certain quality that they feel is going to be very useful in a situation they’re in – just by the nature of who he is, and the way that he operates, and the way his mind works, and the certain skill set and personality that he has. So, when they all meet, they realize that he’s somebody that can be plugged into this very surreal, interesting, sort of fascinating circumstance that they’re all in, and the dangers that they face. And so it becomes a process of assimilating him into their ways of life.”
When asked whether Mordo was good or bad in Doctor Strange, the actor would only say that he’s a “very complex character that can’t be nailed down either way.” Since we haven’t seen Mordo in action yet, we’ll probably have to wait quite some time before learning whether Mordo is friend or foe to Doctor Strange. Mark Hamill Shows 'Star Wars' Fans How to Spot Fake Autographs
When Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope hit theaters in 1977, it not only changed movies forever, but also the merchandising industry. George Lucas built his massive empire on the strength of his films, along with the savvy decision to retain all of the merchandising rights for the franchise, before he sold LucasFilm to Disney in 2012. With Star Wars mania igniting once again, thanks to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans will most certainly be on the hunt for not only merchandise, but autographs from their favorite stars as well. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous dealers out there who will fake a star’s signature, but Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, has recently spoke out against these fraudulent practices by verifying his signature for several fans on his Twitter page.
Over the past few days, the actor has responded to several fans who asked the star if their signed items were actually real. Unfortunately, some of these items did feature fake signatures, but the silver lining to this is that others can use these examples to help sniff out the phony autographs out there. These autographed cards, photos, posters and other bits of memorabilia also reveal the actor’s unique sense of humor. Several of these items feature jokes, most of which are not meant for children, but are quite humorous.
Among the actor’s humorous captions are “Never show up late for dinner at Dad’s house” on a photo featuring Han Solo, Leia Organa, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian as they encounter Darth Vader on Cloud City. One of the autographs even pokes fun at the “crappy” condition of the card he signed, while others are much more adult in nature, poking fun at a seemingly “excited” C-3PO in one photo. The actor admitted in one tweet that he never thought these joke captions would be made public, while admitting that his sense of humor isn’t exactly for everyone. But still, he took it all in stride, while providing a great service for fans by verifying his autograph.
Many of his tweets are accompanied by the hashtags #BeatTheDealers, #FightFraud and #FansRule. With the fan frenzy swirling around Star Wars: The Force Awakens getting bigger by the day, it seems, the demand for autographs from the stars will surely grow, which could in turn lead to more fakes being produced to meet the demand. It remains to be seen if any of Mark Hamill‘s Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-stars will join him in sniffing out these fakes.

'Deadpool' to Introduce 'The New Mutants'?
Is Deadpool about to introduce The New Mutants on the big screen for the first time? Earlier today we showed you three new photos from Deadpool. These came courtesy of Empire Magazine. There latest issue, which is available December 31, is completely devoted to the Merc with the Mouth. And buried in these pages is the fact that yes, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, played by Brianna Hildebrand, is indeed wearing a New Mutants uniform, not an X-Men uniform.
So what does this mean for the movie? Will we meet other New Mutants we don’t know about? Will there be some explanation as to who The New Mutants are and what they are doing in this universe? Or will Negasonic Teenage Warhead show up in the movie, wearing this costume, no questions asked? We’re not sure yet.
What we do know is that X-Men: Apocalypse will not only bring the trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class and continued on in X-Men: Days of Future Past to a close, it will be the climax to Bryan Singer‘s entire franchise. We also know that 20th Century Fox plans on releasing both The New Mutants and X-Force in the next few years, insuring that their version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to hum along. It makes sense that Deadpool would begin this new world building by introducing a member of The New Mutants. And it’s a well known fact that Deadpool is a future member of X-Force.
Does this mean Brianna Hildebrand will lead The New Mutants cast? Fox probably isn’t even sure about that right now, but if she proves to be a fan-favorite, we’d bet this is how things play out. We haven’t heard anything about The New Mutants since May, but this summer, it was announced that filmmaker Josh Boone, best known for The Fault in Our Stars, is co-writing and directing the Marvel adventure.
Knate Gwaltney (Kidnap) is co-writing the screenplay, with Simon Kinberg set to producing alongside Lauren Shuler Donner. Simon Kinberg confirmed the news himself. This is what he had to say seven months ago.
“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”
This superhero action thriller will introduce a new crop of mutants, although it isn’t exactly clear which ones will be used in this adaptation. First introduced in a 1982 Marvel graphic novel, The New Mutants received their own monthly comic book in 1983, with the team comprised of much younger mutants who all attended Professor Xavier’s school. The original lineup consisted of Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Karma and Dani Moonstar, along with Professor X, but the team had an always-evolving roster that included other characters such as Warlock, Mirage, Karma, Magma and Cypher, so it’s anybody’s guess who this adaptation could include. Negasonic Teenage Warhead was never part of The New Mutants in the comic books, but her young age certainly fits in with the storyline being set up.
At the time Josh Boone was first announced as the direct of The New Mutants, the movie was said to be a long ways off. Josh Boone will next make The Vampire Chronicles for Universal Pictures, a reboot of Interview with the Vampire, and then he is moving on to The Stand, so it will likely be a few years before The New Mutants starts production. While we wait to learn more about The New Mutants, you can take a look at the photos which show off Warhead’s uniform.

New 'Suicide Squad' Trailer & 'Wonder Woman' Preview Coming in January
Earlier this week, a description of the second trailer for Suicide Squad revealed that new footage would be arriving in early 2016, but an official date was not given. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long for that info, with The CW Network announcing today that the Suicide Squad trailer will debut during a new DC Comics special entitled DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League, airing next month. The half-hour special will also feature new footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman.
It’s a full night of action from DC Comics on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, as The CW presents two all-new half-hour specials, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now (9:00-9:30pm ET/PT), and DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League (9:30-10:00pm ET/PT). The second special features the world premiere of the new trailer for the upcoming feature film Suicide Squad. The specials will premiere following an original episode of The Flash (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT).
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now is an in-depth look at the origin stories of the heroes and villains of the highly-anticipated new series, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, premiering Thursday, January 21, 2016 (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT).
